A lonely teenager finds Christine, a car that becomes devoted to him and tries to destroy anyone who comes between it and the teen; after her exorcism, Nell tries to rebuild her life in New Orleans and discovers that a demonic force has followed her; when a New York police officer investigates a series of strange crimes, he joins forces with a priest to combat the supernatural aspect of the investigation; a parish priest is charged with negligent homicide after the death of a young woman who was in his care for what others believed to be a medical condition, but he insists was demonic possession; while holed up in a remote cabin, five friends discover a book of the dead and unknowingly summon up dormant demons.
