Dante is a reaper but not by choice. He hates his God-given duty. It's not just about the screams from Hell-he questions if the angels' judgments are even fair. When he tries to free an innocent soul from Hell, Dante is sent there himself as punishment. No matter how hard he tries, he can't escape. Only when he allies with fallen angels, does he start to discover the truth-he's stuck in Hell forever unless he accepts his destiny as a reaper, and Dante needs to decide which is the worst fate.
