Description

The poetry found in "Escape to Pelican Lake" celebrates Life and Love! The author, Will Reuhl explains what it was like to spend his summers on a lake resort in Northern Minnesota. This is best described in the short story, "Pelican Port Resort." He shares his beverage career experience with water, wine, and coffee. There is a wide variety of topics and use of many poetic forms including Will's own example of "concrete poetry" with FREEDOM (look closely at this poem-do you see the Liberty Bell shape?). This collection, like his first book-A Sister's Serenade, is once again like life itself, R There is "Lone Star"(also an example of concrete poetry), "Seattle Nights", and "Singapore Sings" that embodies three beautiful locales, and "The Rules of Golf" about Will's favorite sport! What about your life with your best friend, depicted in A Minnie Life and Me & Tucker. This book encompasses life's nuances, to the blind eye might seem mundane, but to Will it could be profound. For every action there is a reaction; for every fall you must pick yourself up! It is hard to pick a favorite, but when asked, the author would tell you to read the last three pieces, "Words of Confusion", "Words of Wisdom", and "You Come as You Are." If you love music, you may want to pick out the seven songs in the book (the music to the songs is not included, so the author identifies these as lyrics). Whether you read one story at a time or sit down and read the whole book, you are guaranteed to love at least one! "If you are in love with love, you will love this book," says Will, the author.
