The Lost Girl
(eAudiobook)
LAPD Detective Ray Collins and his partner Steadly team up again to solve a case which might not only put their careers on the line, but also their lives. A young girl seems to have disappeared without any trace whatsoever. Her best friend Rebecca tells the police that they got drunk and took pills "up in the hills somewhere", but she has no further memory what happened next. When she woke up the next morning, Tracey was gone. There are little to no hints of what might have happened, with the exception of Rebecca having partial memory of a luxurious mansion. The owner, Lawrence Helzinger, is famous for his social circle, including politicians and police chiefs, who for years protected him from prosecution. His parties are reported to be notorious, turning into orgies, allegedly passing around underage girls. The LAPD, the Washington Post and the New York Times have been after Helzinger for years, but for some reason he seems to be untouchable. Faced with an insurmountable opponent, Collins and Steadly have to fight against the clock to rescue the missing girl and save innocent lives. The two must put aside old resentments and new tensions to run to ground one of the most powerful men in Los Angeles, a cabal of reckless people involved in a secret conspiracy with many moving parts. Ray must not only uncover but expose the monsters lurking in the shadows - which might result in his very own downfall.
