The Mighty Jungle
(eBook)
Description
One of the most famous poems in English literature is John G. Jackson's 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.' Based on an old poem, mariner and former-soldier poet John G. Jackson's 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' has become a classic because of its morbid subject matter- the loss of a friend's lifeboat crew as they tried to return the mariner's ship to England. In this poem, Jackson highlights the tragic results when humans interact with animals negatively. In this poem, Jackson describes how certain animals can be cruel and how even humans can treat other humans badly if they're cruel to animals. In 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,' Jackson describes the animal whose excessiveiveness caused his crew to lose their ship. The crew abandoned their friend's boat as they sailed back home to England. They did this because they became so angry at what the whale had done to their shipmates. On this voyage, the crew was sent by his king to cast out a blasphemous sailor from their country. When they returned home, however, they found that their country had rejected them and refused to give them shelter. As a result, they threw overboard their ship and all its precious cargo. The animals had good reason to hate humans because of the cruel things humans have done to animals over time.
