He enjoyed listening to the banter between the customers and his dad. Then tragedy struck. Shortly after his thirteenth birthday his mother died of the flu. She was the centre of the family, the rock that the man and the boy depended on. His father spent many days in bed unable to cope with the loss of his wife. At fifteen, Tim took over the stall determined to wipe out the debt that had accumulated and then to build a successful business, which would protect those he loved. Looking back he felt a had not done too badly. His clever, beautiful wife Sophie had contributed an enormous amount to the business. Initially Tim had met a fire storm of resistance from her upper-middle-class parents when he had asked to marry her. Now his and Sophie's children were making their mark. He was excited by the influx of other young people bringing their new skills, drives and enthusiasms to the task. Many of the old guard had postponed their retirement and stayed on enjoying the job and the camaraderie one of whom was Tim's father. Follow all the characters through a new era of change and surprises.
