Description

This family story/historical fiction novel is a sequel to "At the Fringes of Society". The continuing saga of the McNutts and McKinnons takes us to Canada and the United States, through the Roaring Twenties, the Dirty Thirties (Great Depression) into the Second World War. Romantic episodes, high drama and intrigue with unexpected plot twists, this book tells the stories of Nicole - brash and impetuous, who follows the path of her husband's - Jeff's - dream of becoming a jazz musician. He ends up riding the rails in the dry, dusty mid-western plains, cut off from his stubborn father and loving wife because of his association with the Mob.Alex, Nicole's brother, is a clever and meticulous naval radio technician who gets embroiled with intrigues at Camp X, a top secret Canadian spy school and gets unceremoniously dumped into WWII occupied France during the D-Day landing. His nurse wife clings to the idea of pursuing him to London to find him and bring him back home to Boston. Evelyn Cohoon Dreiling has recently retired from the Public Service where she worked at National Defence for 10 years. She has pursued a two-year program of Commercial Art at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec and Nursing at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Montreal. She has taught watercolour courses and enjoys doing watercolor images for her book covers and other sketches. She spent many years travelling and living in parts of Canada and the United States. She now makes her home in North Vancouver, BC, where she lives near her two adult children and her daughter-in-law. She always had a great love of books, and is particularly interested in Canadian history, which she attempts to portray through the lives of ordinary people and their stories; she is an avid researcher and will no doubt will be working on another historical fiction novel soon. Dramatic family story set against background of Roaring Twenties, Dirty Thirties, Great Depression and World War Two
