Greenie Duquette, along with her young son, moves to New Mexico to become the pastry chef for the governor and take a break from her marriage to psychiatrist Alan Glazier. Their lives intersect with Fenno McLeod, a gay bookseller who recommended Greenie for the job, and Saga who suffers from memory loss from an accident and works at the animal shelter and persuades Alan to adopt a puppy, and Saga's Uncle Marsden, a Yale ecologist who takes care of her.
