In 1998, three "survivalists" murdered a pliceman and eluded an epic manhunt. The bungled FBI investigation left behind a web of mysteries. Sergeant Jim Chee and Lt. Joe Leaphorn (retired) are assigned to solve the crime when three men stage a pre-dawn raid ont the Ute Tribe's gambling casino, and then disappear in the maze of canyons on the Utah-Arizona border.
