Description

This is the concluding volume of the saga of Barnabus Sackett, patriarch of that family. He returns to England, where he learns of an order for his arrest. The gold coins he found in Sackett's land are thought to be the royal treasure King John lost in the Wash during the time of the Crusades. After encountering some old friends and enemies from the previous book, he returns to America with Abigail, his new bride. He establishes a community between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Franklin, North Carolina, called Shooting Creek. It is a dangerous time. His oldest son, Ken-Ring, is born in the heat of a battle with Indians, a man standing over the mother with a sword in his hand for protection. In all Barnabus has four sons and a daughter. His son, Brian, and daughter, Noelle, return to England with their mother to improve their education, but Ken-Ring, Yance, and Jubal remain behind to carry on their father's legacy. After a long, adventurous life, Barnabus dies fighting Indians and lies in a lonely forgotten grave.
